Code Enforcement Position


The Town of Poestenkill seeks to fill the position of Code Enforcement Officer.  The Code Enforcement Officer is an appointed official responsible for enforcing both state and local Codes, Rules and Regulations pertaining to the construction and maintenance of any structure or excavation within the Town.

Included in the position’s responsibilities but not limited to:

  • The issuing of building permits upon the review and approval of submitted plans and application. 
  • Inspecting existing structures for compliance with applicable rules and regulations
  • Inspecting multifamily dwellings for compliance with state and local law
  • Issuing Certificates of Occupancy for completed projects
  • Prepare a monthly report for the Town Board

Candidates must have construction experience or be qualified on the Rensselaer County Civil Service list for Buildings and Code Inspector.  All successful candidates must be seeking or possess NYS Department of State Certification as a Code Enforcement Official.  Uncertified individuals must work under the direction of a certified CEO.


The position is part time.   Salary or hourly pay is negotiable.  A candidate may also simultaneously seek the Poestenkill municipal water manager position.
